Battlestar Galactica going down down downhill

Just as well this is Battlestar's final season because it's gone so far downhill. All mush and tears.

I enjoy watching SciFi/Fantasy for cool special effects but this shows just turned into an emotional drama - bla!
I keep watching it now as I want to see HOW it finally ends.

What about movies/story lines really draws you in and keeps your attention?

Keeping attention? That's the hard part, isn't it?

I remember the original "Battlestar Galactica". I watched it for maybe a season. Then I gave it up. One thing I do not like is the "Gilligan's Island" setup. This where the cast is placed somewhere and needs to get away, but never can because that would basically end the show.

I liked both the original "Star Trek" and the "Next Generation" series. But both wound up repeating stories over and over again. The original kept having Kirk and crew find "earthlike" planets. This was to save money on sets. In "Next Generation", Data showed more emotion than Spock, and everyone kept getting possessed.

I don't need new special effects. What I do need are fresh stories. This is best done if characters are allowed to age. After a while, when it seems these people are having incredible adventures every weekend, my suspended disbelief drops back down to reality and I quit watching.

The problem with aging characters is that means "moving them on". There are certain scenarios in which it is not reasonable to believe a group of people would not have gone their separate ways after even a few years.

I suppose the same is true with books.

I loved the first Battlestar and preferred over what they did to it. I'm not too sure but I don't think it ran for many seasons. (If that, might have only been one season)

I too am not fond of the ones where they can't find their way home.
Battlestar, always looking for earth has the same problem. They could have found earth, then battled with the cylons on earth!
