Does your writing prevent you from reading?

I've heard published authors say that they don't have any time to read. Do you find that you don't have time to read?

What else do you give up so that you have time to write?

Do you do any sort of volunteer work? If so, doing what? where?

My reading and writing time takes up different parts of my day, so one doesn't really encroach on the other. For example, I pick up a novel and read it in 10 and 20 increments whenever I can. I write after my daughter goes to bed, except for a few hours I can squeeze in on the weekend.

I'm not doing any volunteer work at present. I have in the past year, for church, but not right now. I really need to wait for Vicky to be older before I can spend any significant time volunteering.

How old is Vicky?

Do you see yourself giving up reading once you get the 4 book deal?

As you know I'm fostering for the Pat Brody Shelter for Cats. The kittens need formula supplement as the mother's milk is starting to dry out.
I've also volunteered with the Inline Club of Boston, I was their membership directory from 2000-2005. I haven't been as active with the club because of all the indoor activities. (fostering, reading and writing). I must say, I like it when it rains as it makes being inside easier.

I tend to read best when it's warm outside. I like reading in the sun. In that way, I tell myself I'm getting my vitamin D. If I read inside the house I always think there's something else to do. Plus the TV is inside the house...which is always a distraction. -C

When it's warm (not hot) and sunny, I feel I should skate or bike!

Vicky is 7, but she has Autism, so she needs more of my time than a typical child might.

After the dream book deal? It depends on the terms, I guess. But the reading would probably slow down some. I find that if I don't read, the idea well dries up.

Sure - dream book deal - why not. It happens, why not you! Pending your writing fiction talent rivals your blogging, with your popularity, I see no reason why it can't happen. Don't forget to come to Boston on your book tour!

Lisa, you are so sweet! Thank you!

I'd love to see more of Boston. I've spent some time in the Lexington and Concord area for a training session once. Very beautiful area--even when it was raining!
